Susie's French Bread

I love getting recipes from friends.  Especially after they've made it for me, and it tastes so delightful!  This recipe is so easy and so good!

1 1/4 cup water
4 cups flour (I like to use unbleached flour)
4 tsp. sugar
1 1/2 tsp salt
2 tsp yeast
1 TBS butter

I just load all this in my bread machine on the dough setting.  Take it out and divide it into two pieces.  Roll it into long loafs and place on baking stone or cookie sheet (sprayed with Pam).  Let rise til doubled, about half an hour.  Bake at 400° for 30-45 minutes.  I spread butter on the top crust while it's hot and it makes the crust softer and oh so tasty!
I sometimes freeze one loaf.  The bread is good as is fresh out of the oven.  Or can be cut in half length-wise; butter the tops, sprinkle on some garlic salt and paprika, wrap in foil and place in the oven about 15 min. or so on 350°  Then slice and serve.
